Then explore Vardzia cave monastery, a 12th architectural monument included in the UNESCO tentative list. Vardzia is a masterpiece of Georgian golden age and unites caves, churches, wine press and wineries, irrigation system. All of these sites were carved into the rocks in 12th and 13th centuries. From Vardzia, travel to Javakheti plateau and explore its magnificent nature. Day 1: Borjomi-Rabati-Khertvisi-Vardzia
Borjomi mineral park – is a place where first mineral water was bottled in Georgia. Borjomi mineral parks include different attractions, hot spring pools and mineral waters. Here you can drink mineral water from the spring or bottled it yourself.
Atskuri Fortress – a mediaval stronghold near Borjomi. Atskhuri fortress was significant fortress since 15 centuries until 19th c.
Rabati Castle- originally built in 9 centuries were the major centre of the region. Located on the silk road and occupied by several empires, its architectural style is an unique in Georgia. Rabati Castle complex unites Georgian architecture such as Meskhetian halls, towers and church, as well as Ottoman Empire building such as mosque, pools. Visit the Rabati state museum and explore historical artefacts found in and around Rabati.
Khertvisi – A Medieval fortress designed to protect Georgia from the Southern side, but later was used to conquer Georgia by the Ottomans.

Day 2: Vardzia-Javakheti Plateau-Foka-Tbilisi
Vardzia cave monastery – cut off in the 12th century, originally was supposed to be a defense stronghold but turned into the monastery later by the Kind Tamar. At its peak, it united 3000 caves and could accommodate 50 000 people inside the caves. Today, you can hike to the cave town and explore its magnificent caves, tunnels, wineries, churches with beautiful frescoes.
Javakheti – is a historical province in Southern Georgia, located in the Lesser Caucasus mountains. There are many lakes on Javakheti Plateau, including the biggest one – Lake Paravani and Saghamo Lake.
Foka nunnery –is located on the bank of the Paravani lake. Nuns here produce hones, homemade chocolate, souvenirs.
