Every day you'll hike through breathtaking beauty, taking in views of pristine glacial lakes, iconic snowcapped peaks, and swaying grasses of the alpine meadows.  Each day we’ll experience extreme adventure: we overnight in tents, navigate through off-beaten-paths, walk in the overgrown valleys, and crosses mountainous passes without any vivid trails.

Itinerary: 

 

Day 1: Tbilisi-Lentekhi-Zeskho

 

Driving Distance 400 km, Duration  7 hours

 

  • Kick off the journey in vibrant Tbilisi or Kutaisi, and then jump into the splendor of the Caucasus for a camping trek of a lifetime. We travel to Kvemo Svaneti region, and after 7 hours of long driving, we arrive in Zeskho village. This was a village in the past, but nowadays is more a camping site for hikers and a training ground for mountaineering. Relax and enjoy free time while you acclimatize

  • Overnight in Tents.

 

Day 2: Zeskho-Lapuri Pass- Lapuri Campsite

 

 Walking Distance: 10 km, Duration 7 hours, 680 Up & 600 Down

 

  • Begin trek from Zeskho camping with an ascent to Lapuri pass.  Soon trail turns into a difficult level, and ascends to Lapuri pass (2526m) requires careful and slow trekking. We will have a dangerous path to cross for this day. After making traverse on the path, we descent and reach Lapuri campsite where the rivers Tskenistskali and Lapuri join each other.

  • Overnight in Tents.

 

Day 3: Lapuri - Sasvanostba lakes

 

Walking Distance 12 km, Duration 6 hours, 340 Up & 1500 down

 

  • Get an early start for an all-day hike to the Sasvanostba lake, passing through beautiful forests, talus-covered slopes, and boulders. The trail from Lapuri campsite is a moderate difficulty, from the Lapuri, we ascend up and cross Vatsistvveri pass (2910 m). From here spectacular views are opening - that is one of the most scenic spots in the world, where the mountains rise majestically before you and a glacial lake is visible below. After covering about 8 km the trail approaches the first lake of Sasvano, then, after 500 m, the second lake, with relatively large size, shores of which is our campsite for this day.

Day 4: Sasvanostba lakes - Bartuzeli Campsite – Brili Campsite

 

Walking Distance 11 km, Hours 5, Starting Elevation 2,676 m, ending elevation 1,585 m

 

  • In the morning, begin your trek deep into the wilderness, hiking at a relaxed pace along the banks of mountainous rivers and across the overgrown valleys. The views are magnificent, including Rioni valley below you and your first sighting of the Northern Edena Peak and glacier.  From Sasvano Lakes, the trail descends to the Bartuzeli campsite and then follows the old-forgotten road to the campsite of Brili. After crossing several small rivers, we reach a Brili campsite, where summer huts of shepherds are built.

Day 5: Brili - Ghebi

 

Walking Distance 10 km, Hours 4, starting elevation 1,585 m,  ending elevation 1,377 m

 

  • The most and easiest day of our trekking adventure starts on this day. The valley and road to Ghebi is a place of contrasts, with its white pointy limestone peaks protecting the soft green glacier valley known for its clear mountain air, fertile soil, and organic farms. Hike to the village, a remote village in the deep mountains of Caucasus. Here local people still live, making organic food through traditional methods.

  • Overnight at local Guesthouses.  

 

 

Day 6: Ghebi-Oni-Ambrolauri-Tbilisi

 

Driving Distance 340 km, Duration 6 Hours

 

  • Your adventure wraps up in Racha region where you will explore another main characteristic of Georgia, and Caucasus mountains – a brilliant Georgian wine and cultural monuments. In the morning, we will depart for a wine tasting at the famous Khvanchkara village where we taste the famous wine of Racha – Khvanchkara wine factory. Khvanchkara is a single estate semi-sweet Georgian red wine made from unique aborigine varietals “Aleksandrouli” and “Mujuretuli” produced at Khvanchkara Winery according to the ancient traditions. It exhibits a deep ruby color, aromatic taste, and complex structure. It is the "Pearl" among the Georgian wines. Then travel to Nikortsminda Church which was built in the 11th century and was repaired in the 17th century. The church has a great dome and twelve windows with beautiful decorations and ornaments. The Cathedral is on the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterward, we will travel to Tbilisi.

 

Please note:

 

  • Trekking from Svaneti to Racha is only possible from mid of June till mid of September.

  • On the trekking trail, we may encounter shepherd dogs. They sometimes bark and scare hikers. If you have any problems regarding this issue, please avoid choosing this trek.

  • This holiday involves a considerable amount of walking and may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties.

  • We reserve the right to alter routes without prior notice due to weather and road conditions.

  • Once you have booked your tour, a comprehensive dossier will be sent to you with a more detailed day-by-day itinerary, flight details, visa requirements and helpful information on what to pack.

Our Guides: a knowledgeable, local, English-speaking guide leads all walks and treks. You will have two local guides in case the number of travelers will exceed 10.

 

Accommodation: We stay at basic guesthouses in the mountains. Please take into consideration that our treks lead you into the remote areas, and thus accommodation for some treks may not be so comfortable as in Tbilisi or elsewhere. Individual travelers are, in good consultation, classified with other single travelers of the same sex. You can book a single room at the applicable supplement.

 

Payment: If booking more than 10 weeks before departure a deposit of 20 % of the whole fee will need to be paid at the time of booking with the full amount payable at 10 weeks prior to departure. The deposit applies to adults and children. If you are within 10 weeks of travel then the full balance of the holiday will be payable.
